nuVML™ is a network visualization tool

It allows for abstract virtual logical visualization of the relationships between physical and virtual network devices. It visualizes routing protocols, traffic flow, network topology changes in real-time.

nuVML™ can run as a stand-alone application or in conjunction with Cisco VIRL and CML. It supports multi-vendor environment, works seamlessly with all node types that are simulated in Cisco VIRL and CML.

Build Topology

You can manually build the topology by selecting devices and connections either by adding information manually or thru discovery.

Start instance

Once you have built the topology, start instance to run the simulation or to run monitoring of actual production environment.

You can select from the filter menu what protocols to visualize or hide from view in the visor window.

nuVML™ can be used as a stand-alone application for production network discovery and visualization. For greenfield network design, new feature testing, “what-if” scenario validation, capacity planing, people find it is more flexible working with virtual networks without disrupting production. In that case you need Cisco VIRL or CML server. nuVML™ integrates seamlessly with both Cisco simulation engines.

Absolutely two separate products with no relationship, nuVML is a “visualization” product and Cisco VIRL is a “virtualization” product.

No, Cisco VIRL or CML is required for simulation purposes. However, nuVML™ has powerful visualization & discovery engines. It can run as a standalone application for production networks.

Only Microsoft platform is support at this point.

No, VIRL has to be acquired directly from Cisco at virl.cisco.com

Yes, for this you need to create a connector between production and the simulation. Read more about Cisco VIRL External Connectivity.

nuVML™ and GNS3 are two separate products and have no comparison when it comes to usage. GNS3 is a freeware simulation and design tool while nuVML is a visualization tool can be connected to GNS3 or production network at the same time. In addition,  nuVML™ is fully integrated into Cisco VIRL and CML while GNS3 is not.
